Evin O'Riordain started brewing under a railway arch on Druid Street in 2009, on a 6.5-hectolitre kit that outgrew itself within three years. Production moved to a 32-hectolitre plant on Dockley Road, where the beer is still made, and in August 2024 the brewery opened a taproom on Spa Road roughly twice the size of the one it replaced. Kernel was the first brewery to set up on what became the Bermondsey Beer Mile, and around ninety per cent of what it makes — porters, IPAs, and the 3% Table Beer introduced in 2012 — is sold within London. Two dozen keg lines run at the Spa Road bar, with bottles sold for off sales.
