The WordBookshop

The Word Bookshop is an independent bookshop at 314 New Cross Road, opened in September 2016 by David Brett after fifteen years working in academic bookselling. Brett set up the shop after hearing that Goldsmiths students had lost their nearby Blackwells branch when it closed, and positioned the new shop to serve students and residents with fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels and children's titles. The shop promotes local authors and stocks signed editions where available, and takes phone and email orders for collection alongside walk-in trade. It is open seven days a week: Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday midday to 5pm. Companies House records list Brett as the sole director of The Word Bookshop Ltd. The shop trades from this single New Cross site only, with no other branches, and remains one of the few dedicated bookshops serving the New Cross and Goldsmiths area.
