Five printmakers — Elaine Marshall, Jean Barham, Elizabeth Morris, Maureen Black and Susan Sands — borrowed a shop on Turnpin Lane for a weekend show in December 1978, then formed the Greenwich Printmakers Association the following month with about twenty members. The gallery they set up in Greenwich Market is still run collectively: the thirty-five current artist members take turns staffing the till and hanging the walls themselves. Every print sold is editioned and pulled by hand by the member who made it, in techniques ranging from etching to screenprint. The group has shown work internationally since the 1980s and saw off a proposed redevelopment of the market between 2009 and 2011.
