Abbeydale Brewery

Abbeydale has brewed in Sheffield since Patrick Morton and his father Hugh founded it in 1996, and in October 2024 did something almost no brewery has: handed itself to its staff, becoming the first fully employee-owned brewery in the UK, held in trust for the people who make the beer. It brews from a unit in the city's Antiques Quarter, sells from a shop there, and runs its own pub, the Rising Sun, in Fulwood. Employee ownership is not a marketing line here but a structure — a brewery that belongs to its brewers. Buy it at the source; a new taproom is on the way.
