Nick Wenman planted Albury Vineyard in 2009 on the southern slopes of the North Downs near Guildford, turning a long-held ambition to own a vineyard into Surrey's only organic wine producer. The vines are farmed organically and biodynamically, planted with the classic Champagne trio of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, grown to make English sparkling wine alongside a still rosé. Visitors can book a Saturday vineyard tour and tasting that walks through the growing and winemaking process before finishing with a glass on site. The chalk-influenced soils sit along the A25 towards Dorking, within the Surrey Hills National Landscape, giving the wines a distinct regional character rather than one borrowed wholesale from Champagne. Bottles are sold directly from the vineyard as well as through wine merchants across the county.
