Blue Elephant Pottery is a one-room ceramics studio run by potter Steve Rodgers from Harland Works, a converted cutlery works on John Street reached by an external metal staircase. Rodgers teaches handbuilding, sculpture and wheel throwing in small weekly sessions capped at a handful of students, with up to a kilogram of clay and all materials included in the price. Because greenware needs to dry before firing, a finished piece typically takes two visits spaced roughly a fortnight apart, one to build and one to glaze. Sessions run on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays and welcome complete beginners as well as more practised hands, with children admitted if an adult accompanies them. The building has no lift, so the studio is not accessible to wheelchair users. It is a modest, hands-on operation rather than a large teaching academy.
