BPM has sold records in Derby since Dave Hill opened it in 1987, and still trades over two floors of a timbered Tudor building in Old Blacksmiths Yard, off Sadler Gate — new and second-hand vinyl, run by the same owner nearly four decades on. It is a proper record shop of the enduring kind, the sort a city keeps by luck and stubbornness as the chains come and go. In the Cathedral Quarter's oldest lanes, it is worth the climb up the narrow stairs. Dig the racks; ask Dave.
