Baked

Victoria Bate and Garry Baker are self-taught bakers who opened Baked on The Strand in Derby's Cathedral Quarter, making bread and pastries from scratch using traditional methods rather than pre-mixes. The daily bake list runs to spelt loaves, a chorizo bread finished with chilli and cheese, and a seasonal St Stephen's beer bread made with a local ale. Alongside the bread counter sits a small café area serving cakes, pastries and simple lunches to shoppers passing through the Cathedral Quarter. Everything is baked on the premises rather than trucked in from a central kitchen, and the pair run the counter and ovens themselves rather than through hired management. The shop occupies a modest storefront a short walk from Derby Cathedral, serving a mix of regulars and passing footfall from the surrounding independent shopping streets.
