By day it operates as a plain cafe; dinner service is reserved for Friday and Saturday evenings only, cooked to order from a kitchen barely large enough for one cook and a helper. The bistro is bring-your-own-bottle, with no corkage charged, a policy that has held since it opened. Dishes lean on Scottish produce, plated simply rather than fussily, and the short menu changes according to what is available that week. Booking ahead is necessary for evening tables, particularly at weekends, when the dining room fills with a mix of locals and walkers off the Cairngorms hills.
