Chain House Brewing Co. was started by Ryan Hayes, who began home brewing in 2014 at his parents' house on Chain House Lane in Whitestake before registering the business in September 2017 and naming it after that street. Early batches were brewed on a stovetop and in a Grainfather kit in his garage in New Longton, supplying one-off kegs and pins to local pubs. In early 2022 Hayes moved the brewing equipment to premises off Friargate in Preston, and in November 2022 opened an on-site taproom there. The bar pours two cask ales on handpump and around fifteen keg lines, mixing Chain House's own beers with guest ales from other independent breweries, and all its beer is suitable for vegans. The brewery remains independently owned and is not tied to any pub company, sitting a short walk from the university and Preston's Friargate quarter.
