Chapter ArtsCentre

Chapter is Cardiff's independent arts centre, set up by a group of artists in a former school in Canton in 1971 and run ever since as a charity. Under one roof it holds two cinemas showing the films the multiplexes do not, theatre and performance spaces, galleries, studios for working artists, and a café-bar that has become a Canton institution in its own right. It is a genuine cultural landmark, one of the reasons the city's independent scene punches above its size. Artist-founded, publicly funded, and open to everyone — the model of what a city arts centre can be.
