g39 is an artist-run contemporary art space on Mill Lane, founded on 3 July 1998 as a small exhibition space run by and for artists working in Wales. The gallery became a registered charity in 2019 and now combines an open-plan exhibition room with a library, a cinema screening space and a social area used for talks and workshops. Its programme prioritises artists at every stage of their career, from residencies and mentoring to full solo exhibitions, and it was the first artist-run space to join the Arts Council of Wales portfolio, in 2004. Entry to exhibitions is free, and the space doubles as a meeting point for Cardiff's visual arts community.
