Coles Plant Centre trades from a single site on Uppingham Road in Thurnby, on the eastern edge of Leicester, and is run by James Coles & Sons (Nurseries) Ltd, a family business founded by James Coles in 1913. The company began as a wholesale fruit and vegetable grower in Evington before moving into tree and shrub production; its retail arm, the plant centre itself, opened on London Road in Leicester in 1933 and relocated to the current Thurnby site in 1982. Descendants of the founder still run the business today. The centre sells bedding plants, trees, shrubs, containers, compost, tools and outdoor furniture, and operates a garden club offering member discounts and seasonal advice. Click-and-collect and local delivery are available alongside in-person shopping. The business remains independently owned rather than part of a national garden centre group, and its retail site sits alongside the nursery grounds that supply trees and shrubs to the wider trade.
