Colne Valley Museum occupies a row of Grade II listed weavers' cottages at Cliffe Ash in Golcar, built in the 1840s by cloth manufacturers James and Sally Pearson. The end cottage was later home to the Golcar Socialist Club before standing empty and being given over as a museum in 1970. Run by a registered charity and a volunteer Management Committee, the museum recreates domestic life in the Colne Valley around 1840, with a working kitchen, a period bedroom and a loom chamber where handloom weaving is demonstrated. Extensions in 2008 and 2014 added a reconstructed weaver's cottage and further exhibition space. The museum has won the Sandford Award for heritage education more than once. It opens on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holiday Mondays, from midday to four in the afternoon.
