Dr Jin Chu trained at Le Cordon Bleu and worked as a food biochemist before opening Bel Sourire on West Gate in Wetherby. The tea room serves a full afternoon tea alongside a lunch menu of fresh focaccia and European-style sandwiches, and the counter sells cakes made on site, including a batch of Ugly Ducklings, imperfect bakes sold at half price rather than thrown away. Chu also runs cake-decorating masterclasses from the premises. The business won the UKWHA 2025 Wedding Cake Designer of the Year title and moved to its current, larger West Gate premises in 2024.
