Core of the Poodle is a record shop on Market Street in Haverfordwest, opened by Malcolm Herbert in December 2020 in a building that had previously housed a specialist jazz CD shop. Herbert bought around three thousand CDs from that closing business, giving the new shop a jazz collection from its first day, since built out with rock, soul, reggae, electronic and classical vinyl across more than eight thousand titles. A hi-fi counter sells turntables and amplifiers alongside the records, and the shop brews its own beer, which is served next door at the Market Tavern run by Herbert's wife, Cheryl. The name is a reference to a line from Goethe's Faust. The shop keeps limited opening hours, trading Fridays and Saturdays and by appointment.
