The Cornish Ancestor opened in December 2020 in a former pet shop at 6 Newport in Callington, one of the few micropubs in this part of Cornwall. Three cask ales are served by gravity straight from the barrel rather than through a pump, alongside up to seven real ciders that rotate according to demand, from brewers such as Salcombe and Teignworthy. There are no fruit machines or television screens; the pub's own description states conversation is the main entertainment on offer. Furnishings run to functional barrels, wooden tables and local pictures on the walls, with a small terrace garden for the warmer months. Folk musicians play informally on a monthly evening. Families are welcome until eight in the evening, dogs are allowed throughout, and takeaway food is permitted since the kitchen does not exist.
