Durno Pottery Studio occupies a unit at Gordon Court in the hamlet of Durno, a few miles from Inverurie, and was set up in 2013 by a small group of friends who shared an interest in working with clay. It is now run by Ann-Marie Grant and Jan Mathers, who teach hand-building, wheel throwing, surface decoration and glaze work to small groups and in one-to-one sessions. Classes are pitched at complete beginners as well as those wanting to develop existing skills, with kiln firing carried out on site. The studio sits away from Aberdeenshire's larger towns, drawing people willing to travel for a rural, unhurried setting to learn. Places are booked directly by email rather than through an online timetable.
