The East Riding Theatre occupies a former Victorian chapel on Lord Roberts Road in Beverley, converted into a 200-seat auditorium and opened in 2014. Run as a registered charity, it stages a year-round programme of drama, music, comedy, spoken word and film, mixing touring companies with its own productions and community work. A licensed cafe bar operates alongside the auditorium, and the foyer doubles as a gallery showing work by regional artists. The theatre was established by local people, with actor and director involvement, to give Beverley a dedicated producing and receiving house, and it continues to rely heavily on volunteers and members. As an active, independently governed venue rather than a council facility, it fits the pattern of a going concern rather than a preserved building. Tickets and listings are handled directly through the theatre's own box office.
