Etruria Industrial Museum preserves Jesse Shirley's Bone and Flint Mill, built in 1857, said to be the only steam-powered potters' mill in the world still capable of operating. The mill ground bone, flint and Cornish stone for the pottery industry commercially until 1972, and the site was opened to the public in 1991 following restoration work that began in 1978. It is now run by Shirley's Bone and Flint Mill Volunteers, a registered charity, with steam raised on selected open days for the original engine, Princess.
