A few doors along Wigtown's book row from Shaun Bythell's giant sits its specialist counterweight: Foggie Toddle, the children's bookshop, run since 2020 by Jayne Baldwin — formerly Curly Tale Books, renamed but staffed by the same people who have kept the shelves since 2015. New books, pre-loved and vintage, from board books to young adult, share the rooms with toys, local crafts and fair-trade gifts, and a 2025 refit opened up the second and third rooms for more of the same. In a town where the adult trade is comprehensively covered, the shop that reaches the next generation of readers is doing the load-bearing work; Wigtown's future book-buyers are being made here.
