Gallo NeroII

Gallo Nero II has sold Italian groceries on Stoke Newington High Street since 1988, when Luigi and Ina Mori converted their trattoria into a deli. Their son Michele ran the counter for decades, and his son Marco, previously a photographer, has taken on more of the day-to-day work as his father steps back. Shelves carry imported pasta, olive oil and cheese, while the kitchen turns out fresh pesto, sauces and Michele's tiramisu each morning. A separate Gallo Nero branch on Newington Green, opened in 1985, remains under the same family. Regulars, many of them Italian residents of the area, treat the counter as a local meeting point.
