Hootananny

Hootananny is a live music venue, bar and beer garden at 95 Effra Road in Brixton, opened in September 2007 by a brother-and-sister team who took over what had been a rundown Hobgoblin pub, itself previously the George Canning. The venue programmes reggae, ska, gypsy folk, hip-hop, Latin and electronic music most nights of the week across its main room and smaller side bar. Since October 2023 the live music operation has run as Hootananny Brixton Venue CIC, a community interest company owned and operated by its members for the benefit of the local area, while the attached pub and hostel rooms are held under a separate company. Opening hours run from 5pm daily, extending to 3am on Friday and Saturday. The venue draws touring and local bands as well as club nights, and its beer garden is used for daytime events. It occupies a single Brixton address.
