Humeston Byre Milk House & Farm Shop stands on the A719 between Ayr and Maybole, run by the Gilmour family: John Gilmour and partner Alison Baird, alongside his sisters Fiona and Julieanne and parents John and Effie Gilmour. The farm milks around 200 red-and-white and Holstein cows twice daily, producing more than 10,000 litres, with milk pasteurised and bottled on site in the farm's own milk house. The shop sells that milk alongside the farm's grass-fed lamb, and brings in other local produce including butcher meat, ready meals, fruit and vegetables, preserves, chutneys and ice cream. Outside seating looks toward Ailsa Craig. It opens Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm, with a later close of 8pm on Thursdays. The business trades from the single farm site rather than a chain of shops, and has built a following through Facebook, Instagram and TikTok posts about what's fresh each week.
