IMT Gallery was founded on Cambridge Heath Road in 2005 by Lindsay Friend and Mark Rohtmaa-Jackson, who had previously run an experimental space together as working artists. The gallery operates as a non-profit, with a programme chosen by its own team rather than shaped by a client list, and entry to every show is free. Exhibitions lean towards installation, sound and multimedia work, with past shows including pieces by Suzanne Treister and Legacy Russell across two decades of programming. Since 2011 the gallery has also represented a small roster of artists, among them Ra Tack and David Burrows, sitting between pure non-profit curation and longer-term artist representation. Funding comes partly through Arts Council England, and its exhibitions have been reviewed in Art Monthly and Frieze.
