Jeake's House began as a wool store built in 1689 by merchant Samuel Jeake on Mermaid Street in Rye, and has since been combined with two neighbouring historic buildings, Quakers' House and Elder's House. The American poet Conrad Aiken bought the property in 1924 and called it his most cherished home; his room, along with ten others, is named after a literary or historical figure connected to the house. Chris and Doris Jennings took over the bed and breakfast in February 2025, following Jenny Hadfield, who had run it for close to 40 years. The eleven rooms sleep up to twenty-six guests, with three further doubles at the adjoining Oak House, and a cooked breakfast is included each morning.
