Rob Campkin opened Lost in Vinyl on Magdalene Street in December 2014, after more than two decades working for other people's record shops turned a part-time habit of buying and selling second-hand vinyl into a full-time business. The shop favours new pressings over second-hand stock, with the compact, carefully arranged floor space organised by genre from soul and jazz to folk and soundtracks. Campkin still handles most of the buying himself, mixing reissues of classic albums with new releases from contemporary artists. The name combines his own tendency to lose track of time sorting records in the loft with the title of Giles Smith's memoir Lost in Music and the Sister Sledge song of the same name.
