Newton House is a Grade II listed house above the River Stour on the edge of Sturminster Newton, restored by its owners Margie and Charles Fraser after decades of neglect. The building has a Georgian front but is older beneath it, with a carved medallion frieze above the door hinting at an earlier phase of the house. Margie and Charles let a small number of individually decorated rooms, none of them en suite, and serve breakfast made from locally sourced ingredients around a large table in the family kitchen rather than in a separate dining room. The house sits in gardens close to the river and within walking distance of the town's Saturday market and the old water meadows. It operates as a small, personally run bed and breakfast rather than a hotel, and rooms are best booked directly by phone rather than through a booking platform.
