Nigel Allison works from a studio and gallery space at the Ballymena Business Centre on Fenaghy Road in Galgorm, showing his own paintings rather than a mixed roster of artists. Allison grew up near Kellswater and paints in a semi-impressionist style, working mostly in landscapes of County Antrim, the Glens of Antrim and County Donegal. He held his first solo exhibition at Clotworthy House in 2000 and has since shown work across Ireland, Britain and the United States. The gallery sells original paintings and prints directly, with pieces built around atmosphere and movement rather than an exact likeness of a place. Visitors dealing directly with the artist rather than a dealer or curator get a different kind of conversation about the work than a commercial gallery usually offers. Viewing is best arranged by phone or email rather than dropping in unannounced.
