Barr's Butchers& Deli

Barr's Butchers & Deli occupies a shopfront on Ballymoney Street in Ballymena town centre, trading as a family butcher since 1878 when George Barr opened his first counter. The business is now run by Trevor Barr, George's great-great-grandson, marking five generations of continuous family ownership. In 2023 the shop moved into a larger unit on the same street, adding a delicatessen counter alongside the traditional meat trade. The range includes fresh beef, lamb, pork and poultry sourced from Northern Ireland farms, plus prepared foods such as pies, sausage rolls, coleslaw, soups and catering platters for weddings, funerals and corporate events. Barr's supplies wholesale customers as well as shoppers at the counter, and the wider operation now employs more than 35 staff. The shop keeps family recipes for its sausages and cooked meats developed over the decades, and its Ballymoney Street premises remain the sole trading location for the business.
