Ian and Joyce Cochrane run the Old Bank Bookshop from a former bank building at 7 South Main Street in Wigtown, one of the town's cluster of secondhand bookshops that earned it National Book Town status. Five rooms hold secondhand fiction, local history and antiquarian titles, with one room set aside entirely for sheet music and books on art history. Ian previously taught English as a foreign language for more than two decades, while Joyce spent nearly twenty years as a chartered librarian and education resources officer before the couple took on the shop. Customers can buy a themed lucky bundle of books chosen by the Cochranes rather than browsing the shelves themselves. The shop trades alongside Wigtown's other bookshops within a short walk of the town square.
