The Jones family ran the Olde Tavern on Victoria Road in Kington from 1884 to 2002 and changed almost nothing about it, leaving a Victorian public bar of fixed benches, dark panelling and a period counter that CAMRA now rates as nationally important. Once called the Railway Tavern after the line that closed in the 1950s, the pub still serves four rotating cask ales rather than a fixed house beer, drawing on breweries including Hobsons, Ludlow and Three Tuns. It has no restaurant menu, just a small bar with a real fire, a dog-friendly floor and a garden out back. Herefordshire CAMRA named it Pub of the Year in 2024. It opens from 5pm on weekdays and from noon at weekends.
