Pennymead Books

Pennymead Books occupies a narrow shopfront on Brewerton Street in Knaresborough, run by David Druett, who has traded there since 1982. The shop specialises in secondhand and out-of-print books on philately and the Caribbean, stocking histories, memoirs, geology and natural history surveys alongside original maps, prints, postcards and stamps. Druett is one of only two dealers of philatelic literature operating in the UK and serves as agent for the West Indies Philatelic Study Group. Stock is arranged by subject rather than by author, rewarding browsing over quick purchases, and mail order remains a significant part of the business alongside passing trade. The shop has never advertised heavily, relying instead on a specialist reputation built in a narrow, unfashionable corner of the book trade.
