Pickering Book Tree opened in the summer of 2022, when Andrew and Stephanie Bundy, joined by their daughter Cathy, converted a beamed upstairs space at 43a Market Place into a bookshop and art-supplies counter. The family funded part of the fit-out through a crowdfunding campaign, and the shop stocks new fiction and non-fiction alongside sketchbooks and materials for local artists, planting a tree for every fifty books sold.
