Ramster is a 25-acre woodland garden on the edge of Chiddingfold, laid out from 1890 in association with the Gauntlett family's nursery, once known for introducing Japanese maples and rhododendrons to English gardens. The estate has remained in the same family since 1922, now run by Malcolm and Rosie Glaister, whose forebears include the artist Sir James Gunn. Alongside banks of rhododendrons and azaleas, the estate includes a tea house serving morning coffee, light lunches and cream teas, with soups, quiches and cakes made on site. Seating is available indoors and outdoors, and dogs are welcome throughout. The garden and tea house open daily from late March to early November, with free parking and access to a woodland sculpture trail during the season.
