Rooster's Brewery was founded in Knaresborough in 1993 by Sean Franklin, whose hop-forward pale ales helped establish the American-hopped style in British brewing before it became commonplace. The brewery is now owned and run by the Fozard family, Ian and his sons Oliver and Tom, who bought the business from Franklin in 2011 and moved production to a purpose-built site at Hornbeam Park, Harrogate, in 2019. Yankee, the flagship pale ale, remains the brewery's best-known beer and is credited by writers on British brewing history as an early influence on the wider craft beer movement. Rooster's brews across cask, keg and can, balancing that founding recipe against newer, more experimental styles. The Hornbeam Park site includes a taproom where beers can be tried alongside the wider range sold in bottle shops and pubs across Yorkshire.
