Routefifty7 is an independent bike hire operation run by Kevan at Lower Hyde on the edge of Shanklin, in business for over a decade. It sits directly on the island's main cycle network, including the Red Squirrel Trail that runs traffic-free between Sandown, Shanklin and Newport, along with the Chalk Ridge and round-the-island routes. Hire covers standard bikes and electric bikes, with helmets, maps and puncture repair kits included, and staff can point riders toward routes suited to their fitness and the time they have. It opens seven days a week through the season, which makes it straightforward for holidaymakers without their own bikes to get out for a half day or a full day. Being positioned on the trailheads rather than in the town centre means riders start on the paths immediately, and it operates as a single, owner-run business.
