Sandspout Bookstore

Bookseller Dennis Harrison, known to regulars as Dicky the Book Spiv, opened Sandspout Bookstore in Dolgellau in February 2020, stocking around 15,000 secondhand and new books with a particular emphasis on twentieth-century American fiction and poetry, from pulp paperbacks to Beat generation writing and books on jazz. The shop operates on cash only, keeps no wi-fi on the premises, and wraps purchases in paper rather than plastic bags. It also houses ABPress, a small publishing imprint run from the same address. Most secondhand stock is priced at two pounds, with rarer or newer titles priced individually. The shop keeps short, variable afternoon hours across the week, reflecting its determinedly unhurried approach to bookselling.
