Tappers is a gin distillery and bar on Arrowe Brook Road in Upton, founded in 2016 by Steve Tapril, a self-described gin enthusiast who left an IT career after friends suggested he either turn his hobby into a business or find new friends. Tapril developed his recipe using a small copper pot still, settling on a botanical mix meant to reflect the Wirral coast and countryside near West Kirby, and spent around eighteen months meeting licensing requirements before launching commercially. Each batch is small, roughly forty bottles at a time, hand-filled, labelled, wax-sealed and individually numbered. Alongside production, Tappers runs a Gallery Bar for cocktails and tastings, a gin school where visitors distil their own 70cl bottle on site, and guided distillery tours describing the production process. The business is still run by Tapril and is registered at Companies House as Tappers Artisan Spirits Ltd, based at the same Wirral site where the gin is made.
