Wirral Distillery was founded in 2016 by Peter Golightly, a former corporate IT executive, and now trades from a distillery shop at 25 Bassendale Road in Bromborough on the Wirral peninsula. The distillery makes a range of handmade gins under the Wirral Gin name, alongside variants including Ormskirk Gin, Bakewell Gin, Parma Violet Gin and an overproof gin called High Tide, with flavoured versions such as rhubarb, raspberry and limoncello. Golightly built the early recipes around lemon and ginger, inspired by the gingerbread tradition of his Lancashire hometown, and the distillery says it was first to market with a cherry and almond Bakewell gin and a shimmer gin in 2018. In 2023 the business merged with Sea Ridge Distillery, bringing Millers Vodka and a range of dark spiced, barrel-aged and white rums under the same roof. The site operates as a single working distillery and shop rather than a chain of bars.
