Carr Farm in Meols has been worked by the Jones family since the 1930s, when Joseph 'Joe' Jones took on the tenancy and grew potatoes through the Second World War. His children Dave and Sue Jones began converting the working farm into a garden centre, and by 1982 Carr Farm Garden Centre was trading as an independent business in its own right, a status the family has kept since. The site now combines a plant nursery and garden furniture halls with two food concessions under the Carr Farm roof: Old Joe's Farm Shop, selling local ales, prepared meals and confectionery, and Bexley's Craft Butchers, a counter for locally produced meat. An Atrium Restaurant serves breakfasts and lunches between the plant houses. Positioned on Birkenhead Road between Meols and Hoylake, the centre draws trade from across north Wirral and remains one of the few garden centres in the area still under its founding family's ownership rather than a national group.
