The CavershamButcher

A butcher's shop trading in Caversham's St Martin's Precinct since 1922, now past its centenary. The counter runs to beef, pork, lamb, poultry and game, alongside house-made sausages, dry-cured bacon and bone broths and stocks prepared in the shop. An unusual line for the area is South African cuts and biltong-style products, reflecting the owners' background. The business holds a five-star food hygiene rating and supplies a number of local restaurant kitchens as well as domestic customers. Meat is cut to order at the block rather than pre-packed, and staff will break down or prepare joints to request. It sits within the pedestrian precinct off Church Street, a short walk from Caversham Bridge and the Thames, among the independent shops of this riverside quarter north of Reading town centre.
