The Greyfriar stands on the corner of Greyfriars Road in Reading, a short walk from the railway station, in a building recorded as a pub since at least 1868 and previously known as the Malthouse. It reopened under its current name on 13 February 2014, with Ashleigh Harris as its opening landlady. A free house rather than a brewery-tied pub, it keeps eight handpumps and fourteen keg lines turning over local, independent breweries' beer alongside ciders, perries and a wide range of gins. It won Reading & Mid-Berks CAMRA's Pub of the Year in 2024 and holds Asset of Community Value status. A quiz runs every second Monday, and the pub is dog-friendly. Opening hours are Monday to Thursday midday to 11pm, Friday and Saturday midday to midnight, and Sunday 1pm to 8pm.
