The ChesterCheese Shop

Carole Faulkner gave up running the Blue Bell restaurant along the street and opened this shop on the first of August 1985; her daughter Ann — behind the counter since she was eleven — has taken over the running of it in recent years, and the fortieth anniversary arrived in 2025 with the shelves carrying more than two hundred cheeses of cow, goat and ewe. Television keeps finding it: the Hairy Bikers filmed here, Terry Wogan came through for a BBC food series, and Prince Edward paid a post-lockdown visit in support of small shops. Forty years of mongering on Northgate Street is the better citation.
