Suzanne Matheison established The Dory Gallery, known in Welsh as Oriel Dory, in 2017 inside a building put up in 1840 as the National School for the Poor and extended in 1870. The building later served as Llangollen's health centre until its closure in 2013, standing empty before Matheison reopened it as a gallery. She favours artists whose work asks to be looked at honestly rather than pieces designed to shock or simply decorate a wall, and the gallery has shown painters and printmakers including Edward Bell and Keith Roberts. Opening hours run Saturday and Sunday mornings through mid-afternoon, with weekday visits by arrangement. The gallery also hires out its rooms for private exhibitions and events.
