Tom Harris and Jon Rotheram, both from St JOHN, took on the Marksman, an 1865 pub on Hackney Road, in 2015 and turned its upstairs into a dining room serious enough to make it the first London pub to win Michelin Pub of the Year, in 2017. Ten years on, the founding chefs are still running it — a proper pub downstairs, precise, produce-led British cooking above.
