Thorne Records

Thorne Records opened on Bruntsfield Place in 2022, after Mark Thorne spent some twenty-five years working the counters of seven other record shops before deciding to run his own. The stock covers new vinyl across genres and eras rather than specialising in one scene, chosen and ordered entirely by Thorne himself. He does not sell online or take mail orders; every record leaves the shop over the counter, which keeps the operation small and the conversation with customers central to how it runs. A share of every sale goes to the Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland. The shop was named among the world's best record stores by the Financial Times, a distinction Thorne treats as incidental to the daily business of restocking racks and taking recommendations. It remains a single, owner-run unit with no other branches.
