Kit Challis ran a series of pop-up beer bars in empty shop units around Crookes and Walkley before finding a permanent home in 2014, converting a former florist's shop on South Road into Walkley Beer Company. The single-room micropub pours two cask ales and cider on handpull alongside six rotating keg lines, drawing on breweries such as Kernel, Beavertown, Siren and Weird Beard, plus imports from Belgium, Germany and the United States. Customers can drink in or take beer away, with cask sold in two-pint cartons to go or filled into a customer's own vessel at the counter. The shop remains Challis's only site, independent of any brewery or pub company, and continues to trade from the same South Road unit it has occupied since opening.
