Achilty Guest House occupies a building in Contin, near Strathpeffer, that began life as a drovers' inn around 1700, when cattlemen and their herds passed through Strathconon on the old droving routes north. The current owners run it as a small, family-operated guest house rather than a hotel chain, set among pines and oaks with views over Strathconon and within walking distance of Loch Achilty. Guests come chiefly for access to the surrounding hills, the Strathpuffer winter cycling circuit and loch-side picnic spots, alongside the building's own history as one of the north Highlands' longest-serving hostelries. Its position on the old drove road links it to a trade that shaped much of the central Highlands before the railway and motor car arrived.
