The Blue Anchor started life as a monk's resting house in the 1400s and has brewed on site ever since, making it one of Britain's oldest continuously operating pub breweries. It's run today by Ben and Jenine on behalf of Ben's parents Kim and Simon Stone, with Ben brewing the Spingo range using water drawn from the pub's own well. The core beers include Spingo Middle, Spingo Special and Spingo Extra Special, alongside a stout Ben first brewed in 2011. The building on Coinagehall Street keeps a skittle alley, an inglenook fireplace and a garden for outdoor drinking, and hosts fundraising nights for local sports clubs and charities. It remains family-owned rather than part of any pub company.
